Located in North Davis, Covell Park is probably best known for its extensive, lush greenbelt that connects a series of parks, including Covell and Northstar Parks, both located within the neighborhood’s boundaries.
It is easily one of the more scenic and “outdoorsy” enclaves of Davis. Covell residents are less likely to be inside and more apt to be taking a bike ride or strolling along one of the many paths that run through the community. In a true progressive manner (the city was decades ahead in alternative/bicycling infrastructure) the belt also features a number of well-placed sculptures. The “Domino Effect” sculpture is a favorite among locals and kids, often doubling as a climbing structure and obstacle course.
Covell Park is home to two tennis courts, play structures and expansive grassy areas. Northstar Park features two ponds and many ideal trails for walking, skating, and running. Community Park, not in Covell specifically but just across the way, has a community pool, dog park, and is home to a Fourth of July celebration and Celebrate Davis. Davis Art Center, Davis Senior High, North Davis Elementary School, and Davis High School are all conveniently located just across West Covell Boulevard.
Davis is just 15 miles from Sacramento and is known to be one of the nation’s best cities for bicycling – boasting (at one time) more bikes than cars. It’s been recognized by the League of American Bicyclists and is home to the United States Bicycling Hall of Fame.
Known as a college town above all else, Davis is also an ideal community for families, professionals, and retirees. Popular features include the UC Davis Arboretum and the Mondavi Center, which hosts many word-class performers. The year-round farmers market is also wildly popular. Held Wednesday evenings and Saturday mornings, the market was named among America’s Favorite Farmers Markets by the American Farmland Trust. It also ranked among USA Today’s 10 Best Places to Visit a Farmers Market. A seasonal market is held at Sutter Davis Hospital.
